July 12-15 - Fury Cove

July 12-15, 2014 - Fury Cove

An early morning departure from Port Alexander to Fury Cove was to allow us to take advantage of the calmer seas early in the morning …. 6 hours of fog and big ocean swells (short periods – not fun !)
However, we arrived safely to a very small and busy Fury Cove (16 boats including us !) ….

Beautiful little anchorage… but still foggy !

Northern Ranger arrives .... no visibility beyond the entrance to the cove....

We checked out the white shell beach .... BEAUTIFUL !

Rafted together in the cove .....

Val treated us to her FAMOUS and FABULOUS bouillabaisse and Penny whipped up a loaf of beer bread … a wonderfully tasty dinner.

May I just mention here how WELL we are all eating on this trip !!!

Up in the morning and after Dina’s delicious blueberry pancakes, we packed a picnic lunch and headed off in the tenders to Draney Inlet …. GORGEOUS !!!

Picnicing at Caroline Lake Falls ….

Waiting for slack tide at the entrance to the inlet ....

Val, Cameron and I thumped our way back to Fury Cove on our tender, while Penny and Lawrence with Ken and Dina  took their time, stopping along the way to fish ….
Salmon for dinner ??? …. Nope ….. chicken and ribs !!

We opted to stay and base ourselves out of this quaint little cove for the next couple of days….
Boats came and went .... the cove got quieter and quieter .....

We kayak'd ....

... raced around in the dingys setting crab traps ....

During our stay,  the intrepid "fisherpeoples" headed out again… this time with success.

The crabbers …. not so much ….. lots of empty traps !!  BUMMER !!

Lawrence’s prawn trap however, netted us 35 beauties !!

Then it was “up anchor” and on to Dawson’s Landing ….

"Captain Ken" .....
