July 24 & 25th, 2014 - Rescue Bay

July 24 & 25, 2014 – Rescue Bay

En route to Rescue Bay, we passed more beautiful scenery like this quaint lighthouse at Dryad Point (just around the corner from Bella Bella / Shearwater)

Arriving at Rescue Bay in the mist, felt like we had arrived in the middle of a Tony Onley painting with all the layers of grey blue hills, water, rocks and sky.... STUNNING ....

Out of the mist comes Northern Ranger……into a beautiful cove .... all to ourselves.

The first order of business was to drop the crab traps to see what we might catch.

The second order of business was to put a group together to fish …. Penny and Lawrence with Dad and I, headed off in the drizzle, which quickly turned into downpour.

Getting suitably dressed to fish in the rain, reminds me of a scene out of Thomas’s Snowsuit.
On go all the many layers … the warm layer, the Gortex layer, the pfd… then ….
(Well, you know the drill if you’ve read the children’s book ….)

Don't we LOOK like we are having fun ???   On top of all that, we got SKUNKED.

We were a disappointed  and very soaked group upon our arrival back at the boats.
The evening quickly improved however, with a fabulous dinner of halibut, salads, roasted vegies with feta, fresh pull-apart bread and a mixed berry crumble WITH  ice cream.
Then …. The movie TOP GUN.

Beautiful dinner … nice bottles of wine …. Tom Cruise ….. Doesn’t get any better than that !!

The next day we woke up to SUNSHINE (prayers answered !) and the (male) hunter/gatherers headed off late morning for a couple of hours of fishing.

Penny and I kayaked around the bay and into Jackson Narrows… beautiful scenery  !!

The guys returned empty-handed ….

But the crab traps pulled in 5 beautiful keepers so we WILL eat again !!!

Get the melted butter ……

We ran the tenders through Jackson Narrows to Finlayson Channel and up to Klemtu ….
A beautiful trip through the narrows ...

but sadly,  not a lot to see in Klemtu ….

Other than a native Long House across the bay from where we tied up .

(We did see a mom whale and her baby just coming up to the surface,
on the way back but not in time to capture them on camera....)

When we arrived  back at Rescue Bay, we had been joined in the bay, by a number of other boats that we met previously at Shearwater …. including THE DOG / LAB BOATS !!!!
OMG !!!  How cute are they ???????????????
