July 15, 2014 - SPIRIT OF THE COAST
While we were at anchor in Fury
Cove, we were visited by a crew in a beautiful native canoe who, accompanied by
a sail boat, were on their way up to Shearwater to rendezvous on July 19th with a number of
other paddlers from Alaska and as far away as the Aleutian Islands.
The canoe leader’s name is Brandon Gabriel from Langley .....
AND he knows Cam’s partner, George Sawatsky, and his wife Anne !!!
SMALL WORLD !!!
Their mandate is to bring awareness
of our coastline to share with Canadians.
Their website, for more
information is www.spiritdancercanoejourneys.ca .
This
journey is called SPIRIT OF THE COAST 2014 ….
Here is an excerpt from their website ….

News and information
"Spirit of the Coast' is about
awareness, education, culture, environment and most of all bringing attention
to our beautiful BC Coastline and to share with Canadians what an amazing place
we have, it is not a protest, but about educating all that have never seen it.
"A film will be made of the entire journey and hopefully be aired on Discovery and Knowledge Networks when completed."

Brandon and his group, gave us a tour of
their campsite while they were in Fury Cove and Brandon shared the story of some of his native art with us. This particular drum which Brandon designed, made and then painted has 3 symbols on it. His choice of colors were inspired by the lush greens in the forest and the grey-green moss which hangs from the cedars .
The center character, in bright green, is the Sasquatch which represents forest lore.
The two green birds at 10 and 2 o'clock are ravens which represent wisdom.
The two figures at the top, facing each other, are wolves (symbols for Brandon's tribe)
and represent family.
The group's portable camp stove from England
(as were some of the paddlers for this leg of their journey) !
We keep meeting the most interesting people .......
