July 19, 2013 – Ucluelet

The “3 hour tour” of Gilligan Island fame is not exactly what we experienced on the way to Ucluelet, as the weather was very benign, but Brian and I did suffer some of the effects of 3 hours of those long, lopey rollers and we both ended up popping Gravol and having a little snooze….

We arrived to a very full marina, so we have anchored just outside the marina in the inlet .... and were greeted by a number of HUGE eagles, enjoying their lunch !!

After anchoring, we dinghy’d into town and had a FABULOUS lunch on the Canadian Princess – a huge vessel permanently moored in the harbor.

She was formerly called the William J Stewart, a 228 foot hydrographic survey ship (1932-1975) and now operates as a floating hotel/fishing resort.  The food was GREAT … crab cakes, fish tacos, GREAT soups …. All delicious !!!  It’s a very funky, old (but beautifully maintained) ship !!

We walked the 4-6 blocks into the town center and hit a farmers market … bought some blueberry jam (Cam’s MOST favorite) which we will be enjoying on toast in the morning, and some fresh fruit !!!

When we got back to the boat, Cam and Bri headed off to drop our crab traps … I will let you know how successful our efforts were !!

The plan for tomorrow is to head into Barkley for a few days of kayaking and hiking … we’re off to find Lucky Creek … apparently it’s a “must see” !!!
